UNIB Mechanical Engineering Students Win Bronze at PIMNAS Event in Bali

Quite encouraging NEWS came from the 32nd National Student Scientific Week (PIMPNAS) in 2019 which was held at the Bukit Jimbaran Campus, Udayana University, Bali. On Friday night, (30/8/2019), the committee announced the winners. As a result, the UNIB Ambassador in this prestigious event, won a Bronze Medal (3rd Place) in the Poster Category of PKM-KC (Student Creativity Program – Karsa Cipta).

The UNIB ambassador in this event is a team consisting of three students of the Mechanical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering. The three students are Syaiful Ghozali (class of 2018) as team leader, Sofyan Safari (2016) and Febriansyah (2016) as members, with Advisory Lecturer Dr. eng. Hendra, ST, MT. The title of this Karsa Cipta Team poster is “Depentol Pelasterin” which is an Integrated Plastic Crushing Machine for Injection Molding Temperature Control.

This FT Student Team succeeded in making UNIB proud on the national stage, although they had to be satisfied with the Bronze Medal, under Gadjah Mada University (UGM) which won the Gold Medal and Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) the Silver Medal. “Congratulations to the students, hopefully this can motivate other students to achieve better and more achievements in the future.

Through this “Depentol Pelasterin” tool, the three students produced a machine that processes plastic waste into boards or blocks to reduce tree cutting activities and stop environmental pollution due to plastic waste.

The idea of making this appropriate technology departs from the phenomenon that there is still a lot of accumulation of plastic waste and tree cutting that can cause disasters for living things. With this “Depentol Pelasterin” tool, you can chop plastic and print plastic boards and plastic blocks that are worth selling.

This tool consists of several important parts, including an iron frame, an electric motor equipped with a control panel, a heater, an actuator, a counting chamber, and a push lever. The work of this tool can replace wooden boards, logs or logs for building materials. Then it can also be a floor coating or a substitute for wall tiles.

In general, it can be concluded that the Depentol Plasterin Tool produced by three UNIB Faculty of Engineering students is the first step in innovating a plastic waste management system into an environmentally friendly system and producing valuable products.
