Since its establishment in 2017, the Architecture study program at, the Faculty of Engineering, at the University of Bengkulu has continued to strive to carry out learning activities for prospective architects, research and development related to architecture, planning, and policy development as well as community service. This is an effort to create graduates who are reliable, creative, innovative, and can survive in the era of disruption.<\/p>\n

With the establishment of the architecture department, the Faculty of Engineering, Bengkulu University became part of the ideals and spirit of Bengkulu University to preserve and build the civilization of Bengkulu and Indonesian architecture.<\/p>\n

The development of architecture in Bengkulu & Indonesia cannot be separated from the participation of alumni, whether as practitioners, academics, or others. The challenge of architecture today is not only to localize architectural cultural styles but also to create buildings that still preserve regional culture and disaster-responsive architecture.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Contrary to popular misconception that you need to be good at drawing, these are actually my personal concept of the essential traits to being a great architect:<\/p>\n

  1. Creativity\u00a0– In architecture, you have to draw a lot. but that doesn\u2019t mean you need to be damn good at it. What\u2019s essential though is how you compose concepts, design concept specifically. Architecture is all about physically translating concepts and ideas for human use<\/li>\n
  2. Spatial Intelligence\u00a0– Architecture is three dimensional. You will be dealing with spaces and depths. It is essential that you have a clear grasp of complexity of spaces whether seen in flat drawings or actual spaces.<\/li>\n
  3. Exemplary People Skill\u00a0– This area has been taken for granted by many aspiring architects. In practice it is inevitable that you will have to deal with a wide range of professions to have your design become reality. Collaboration is a keyword for successful project in architecture. Your client may come from all walks of life<\/li>\n
  4. Business Acumen\u00a0– Truth is, architecture is also business. You have to be able to sell your service because there is a stiff competition in this profession.<\/li>\n
  5. Patience and Perseverance\u00a0– One project takes time. You will be counting years and years before one could be finished.<\/li>\n
  6. Math and Physics\u00a0– This is where our \u201cart and creativity\u201d differentiate itself from other visual art forms. You have to make your \u201cdesign\u201d work in reality. You concepts must be realistic albeit creative and aesthetically superior. With strong background in math and physics, you will be able to think structures beyond conventional to be possibly built. It is your engineer who will do the accurate calculations for you and build it physically. With this, you will avoid the dreaded argument between architect and engineer saying \u201carchitect, this design is impossible\u201d, but because you have full grasp of math and physics, you will know that there is a solution.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
